A city with profile…
For walking and running enthusiasts, Bregenz offers numerous stretches that promise a unique experience especially when it comes to landscape along Lake Constance. The well-developed paths are excellent for activities such as jogging and Nordic walking. In addition, regular runs and the unique three-country marathon starting in Lindau and ending in Bregenz take place here, which attract sport friends in particular to our state capital.
When the hecticness of the everyday routine gains the upper hand again, the residents of Bregenz have a miracle cure – their 1,064-metre-high local mountain. With this view from the summit onto Lake Constance, the city and the Alps, one’s thoughts are calmed and the stress is put into perspective. Each of the two cabins comfortably offers space for 80 people. Silently and in an environmentally friendly manner, you glide towards the mountain.
Those who want to explore the banks of Lake Constance are best to combine it with a cycling tour around Lake Constance. The outstandingly developed cycle paths, which, with a total length of 268 km, are largely flat, promise atmospheric views and breathtaking landscapes along the beaches.
The mediaeval castles ruins on the Gebhardsberg, a charming restaurant with an impressive dining hall and a baroque chapel that is worth seeing can be reached on foot in less than an hour from the centre via romantic forest paths, in 10 minutes by car. A breathtaking panoramic view of the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance make a visit to the Gebhardsberg worthwhile.
From small round hikes to extended hikes: a well-developed and signposted network of paths awaits you.
The uniqueness of Vorarlberg’s state capital is characterised above all by the landscape combination of lake and mountain. The local mountain of the residents of Bregenz, the Pfänder, presents itself as an ideal opportunity to include hikes in one’s leisure pursuits.

In the summer months, the pleasantly invigorating water of Lake Constance offers a refreshing change from a city trip. Not far from the centre of the city of Bregenz, the bathing fun in the outdoor pools and on the beaches is very close to the urban goings-on and yet far removed from the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life. Locals also take advantage of the qualities of Lake Constance to take a little time out.
Bregenz is also a popular destination for sailors. The new marina is an attractive docking destination for guests – as is the sport harbour, located slightly further to the east. The highlight of the sailing season at Lake Constance is the East-West Regatta. This year, it begins on 28 July in Bregenz. Then the ships head for Konstanz, 46 kilometres away. Last year, when the route was covered in the opposite direction, approximately 250 ships were involved.
In the gondola port, between the fisherman’s footbridge and the Festival House, there is the chance to hire electric boats, pedal boats and rowing boats at the Feurstein boat rental service. As your own captain, you have the opportunity to explore Lake Constance, or simply to let yourself be driven by the waves. Additionally: trips and tours for up to seven people with the “lake taxi”, a 175-hp-strong Bayliner motorboat.
One Marathon – Three Countries: 9 October 2016

On the Pfänder (1,064 metres above sea level), the local mountain of the city of Bregenz, families have a lot of fun in the small ski resort. The downhill fun can be reached via 2 ski lifts (the Maldonalift and the Dohlelift). The slopes are groomed when there is sufficient snow lying on the mountain and the ski route to Bregenz is open. If there is a good snow situation, the ski lifts at the mountain station are in operation on a limited basis on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4.30pm. The Pfänderbahn is in operation daily from 8am to 7pm.
