The Silvretta High Alpine Road connects the communities of Galtür (1,584 m) in Paznaun and Gaschurn/Partenen (1,051 m) in Montafon. It leads in 34 hairpin bends over the Bielerhöhe (2,032 m), past the power plants and reservoirs of Vorarlberger Illwerke AG.
The road may be called a pioneering achievement of civil engineers in road construction. It forms the third connection between Tyrol and Vorarlberg in addition to the Arlberg Pass road or Arlberg Tunnel and the connection from Warth into the Lech Valley.
